Set for a release
in January 2007, Battlefield Evolution is the fastpaced
game of opposing real-world military forces in the
near future, who have access to all the exciting technologies
that are just around the corner. From ‘lethality
upgrade programmes’ of
existing hardware to all new equipment such as the
Land Warrior and FIST initiatives, players will have
the chance to build forces that are believable and yet
will allow you to test a wide variety of ‘what-if?’ confrontations
and conflicts. |

Gahrlak Elfeater
smiled grimly at the elf forces facing him. He’d
spent his entire
life conducting raids on Ravenwood, burning forest and
looting villages but nothing was better than trapping
a group of elves on an open field. |

This month I thought
I’d take a look at how to add that something
special to a models
paint job. Yes, we’re talking about a little freehand
here. One of my favourite
freehand motifs is a flame effect much like hot rod style
flames. Always fun and looks pretty cool on sci-fi models.
The Alpha
Forge Games Primeval IX class demolition droid was an
ideal candidate to receive a flame job. Those big plates
of shoulder
armour were perfect for it. |

Infinity is a new
sci-fi wargame from Corvus Belli. Using beautiful 28mm
futuristic miniatures to represent your forces on the
battlefield ‘Infinity’ is a brilliant fast-paced
skirmish game that pits six factions of the future
against each other in inventive and
often brutal combat.

No Limits is a fast
paced miniatures tabletop battle system for two or
more players. There are no limits, the whole universe
is the battleground and any army is possible. Faster
than light travel and interstellar wormholes have opened
worlds to those that wish to take what they do not
have. No worlds are safe. Fight or suffer. Liberty
of slavery. There is no choice. There is only one way.
In the future, there are No Limits... |

With the imminent launch of the new TV
series Robin Hood we (my usual gaming
victims and myself) thought it might be
fun to find a set of rules for the period. A
good friend of ours suggested a new set
‘Vanguard Men at Arms’ he had seen
mentioned on the Miniatures Page. It’s
a medieval skirmish rule set. It’s the
right period, and has got a range of very
nice 40mm medieval figures and some
character figures too, such as Robin and
his Merry Men. It also has a separate
section in the rules for playing historical
people within the vanguard game, it
seemed too good an opportunity to turn
down so I invested in the pdf, which was
cheap and between the four of us we
also bought the two Robin Hood boxed

There is a Greek
legend that tells of a frozen land at the top of the
world, a place many days sail beyond the most northerly
human settlement. Here the cold sea is studded with
floating mountains of ice, turning the
waters into a frothing tempest that can crush the hulls
of the strongest ships and freeze the bodies of the unfortunate
sailors who dared to sail there. The land beyond the
frozen sea is Ultima Thule… the
land of Farthest North. A great ring of frozen mountains
surround this land, whose peaks are impossibly high,
and whose slopes are steep and treacherous. Legends say
that these mountains hide a warm, rich valley, where
in times before the
coming of man the Old Gods forged the world. In this
mysterious valley, magical treasures and fantastic creatures
abound… the valley is called Hyperborea, the Land
Beyond the North Wind. |
